Stop 5 — Jones House

Address: 504 North Pine Street Year built: 1895

The Jones House at 504 North Pine Street is a one-story gabled residence with decorative gingerbread trim. Per Friends of Fourth Ward, the house was built by construction mogul J. A. Jones as a wedding gift to his son.

The J. A. Jones Construction Company is the same firm that later built the Independence Building at Trade and Tryon (1908), Charlotte's first true skyscraper — the one whose oak doors were salvaged into the bar at Alexander Michael's. The Jones name threads through a half-century of Charlotte construction history.
