Stop 4 — Overcarsh House

Address: 326 West 8th Street Year built: 1879 Style: Queen Anne Designation: CMHLC historic landmark

The Overcarsh House at 326 West 8th Street is an 1879 Queen Anne-style residence and one of the 13 stops on the walking tour designated a historic landmark by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission.

Per the Friends of Fourth Ward document, the most distinctive exterior feature is a circular turret tower at the corner facade. Other notable elements include sunburst gables, a bracketed front porch, and a carved pineapple around the front door.

The Overcarsh is one of the earliest Queen Anne survivors in the neighborhood — only the 1867 Lyles-Sims House and the 1820 Sloan-Davidson House predate it on the tour.
