About Fourth Ward Charlotte

The neighborhood paper for Charlotte's Historic Fourth Ward.

Fourth Ward Charlotte covers one square of the city with the kind of attention most of it gets only when something goes wrong. The civic business, the history hiding in the brick, and the day-to-day life of the neighborhood: that is our whole beat, and we are happy to keep it small.

Our tagline says it best. We are always last to breaking news, because breaking news is not what we do. We do the slower, closer story: who is building what, what the neighborhood association decided, which 1880s cottage is getting a second life, and where everyone is gathering this weekend.

What We Cover

We report Fourth Ward from three angles:

  • Civic: rezonings, development applications, the neighborhood association, historic district rules, and anything before City Hall that lands inside the ward.
  • History: the buildings, the names, and the stories behind one of Charlotte's oldest neighborhoods, including our 48-stop walking tour of Historic Fourth Ward.
  • Community: new neighbors and new businesses, parks and porches, events, and the Friends of Fourth Ward.

How We Work

We are a small, independent newsroom. We do not run banner ads, we do not dress sponsored content up as reporting, and we do not chase clicks. When we get something wrong, the correction goes at the top of the story, not buried at the bottom.

A real person reads every tip and every letter. If you would rather not be named as a source, just say so.
