Stop 7 — 513 North Pine Street
Year built: 1880s Style: Two-story shotgun with Charleston Gable
The 1880s residence at 513 North Pine Street is a two-story "shotgun style" home with a Charleston Gable on the front. Per Friends of Fourth Ward, the house has been expanded in two phases: first after World War II to provide a trade school for returning GIs, and subsequently to enlarge the residential living quarters.
The GI-trade-school detail is unusual for a Fourth Ward residence and reflects the neighborhood's mid-20th-century decline-and-reuse cycle — before the 1976 restoration, the historic housing stock was adapted for whatever demand existed.
