Fourth Ward has one considerable advantage in Tuesday night's Charlotte sports schedule: Charlotte FC is playing at the stadium down the street.
Everyone else requires a screen, a score alert or the sort of commitment best left to people with fewer weekday obligations.

The neighborhood game is the important one
Charlotte FC hosts CF Pachuca at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bank of America Stadium.
Charlotte has opened Leagues Cup with a 3-0 win over Pumas UNAM and a 2-0 win over Atlas FC. It has six points, five goals and two clean sheets. No goals allowed is generally considered the less stressful way to move through a tournament.
Pachuca is Charlotte's third and final Phase One opponent. The top four MLS clubs advance from the league table, a format seemingly designed to make everyone keep one extra browser tab open.
Tuesday is Charlotte's last chance to improve its position before the knockout field is set. For Fourth Ward, it is also the rare entry in this roundup that does not begin several states away.

The Knights have an arithmetic problem
The Charlotte Knights finished their season series against Durham at 14-4. They are 62-52 overall.
Remove the Durham Bulls, and Charlotte is exactly 48-48 against everybody else.
This does not invalidate anything. Winning 14 of 18 games is legal and, in most cases, encouraged. It does mean Durham supplied the Knights' entire margin above .500.
That matchup is finished. Charlotte begins a 12-game road trip Tuesday with six games at Rochester, then six at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Rochester opener starts at 6:45 p.m.
The next two weeks should clarify whether Durham was the Knights' favorite opponent or an accounting department.

Iowa rewarded the last good decision
Ty Gibbs won Sunday's Cup race at Iowa Speedway after his team changed only two tires on the final green-flag stop. The shorter stop moved him ahead of Christopher Bell. Gibbs kept Bell behind him for the final 20 laps and won by 0.253 seconds.
It was Gibbs' second victory this season, and he left Iowa second in points.

Carson Kvapil led only nine laps in Saturday's race. They were the last nine, which is one way to make efficiency look dramatic.
Kvapil passed Ross Chastain after Chastain spun his tires during overtime, then beat Rajah Caruth by 0.343 seconds. Kvapil went 63 starts without a victory. He has now won twice in two races.

In Fourth Ward, this is less a scheduling conflict than a question of whether you want to hear the stadium or enter it.
