St. Peter's Condominiums

Charlotte's first civilian hospital, condominiums since 1980

St. Peter's Condominiums, at 229 North Poplar Street, occupies the buildings of St. Peter's Hospital, which opened on this corner in 1878 and was Charlotte's only hospital until 1888. It is a Mecklenburg County historic landmark and stop 48 on the Fourth Ward walking tour.

The building

The hospital closed in 1940, when Memorial Hospital opened, and the building became the Kenmore Hotel for almost four decades. It was converted into 36 condominiums in 1980.

St. Peter's is on North Poplar Street between Trade Street and Fourth Ward Park.
