Stop 36 — Young-Morrison House

Address: 226 West 10th Street Year built: 1885 Style: Queen Anne with Italianate details Designation: CMHLC historic landmark Current use: Spaghett — Italian restaurant, opened 2025

The Young-Morrison House at 226 West 10th Street is an 1885 Queen Anne with Italianate details and one of the more socially significant houses on the walking tour.

Per Friends of Fourth Ward, the house was owned and occupied by descendants of Dr. Robert Hall Morrison, the founder and first president of Davidson College. That lineage threads the Young-Morrison House directly to the founding of one of North Carolina's major private colleges — a biographical link that most Fourth Ward historic houses do not have.

Later in the 20th century, the house was used as a bookstore, an events venue, and an architect's studio. Per FOFW: "The exterior wood trim is especially noteworthy since it is typical of many of its contemporary houses in Charlotte, few of which remain."

Today

The Young-Morrison House is now home to Spaghett, an Italian restaurant from Irreverently Refined Hospitality (founder Sam Hart, James Beard finalist) that opened in the space in summer 2025. The restaurant took over the space after the former Poplar restaurant closed.
